Dear Friends,
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be running in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon! (*woo* 🎉 🗽🏃🏥)
This year’s marathon is on November 3, just two days before Election Day. My hope is that by running, I can help metabolize my (considerable) anxiety about the election AND push for better outcomes in the democratic process by raising money for the nonprofit Democracy Works.
As you may know, I live in New York, where the ease of voting can be taken for granted. Around the country, however, it’s become a bit more complicated. I’ve been pretty startled to learn that:
29 million(!) Americans live under different voter ID laws in 2024 than in 2020.
Half of Americans living in states with Voter ID laws are unaware of what their requirements are in order to cast a ballot.
AI is being deployed to confuse and dissuade voters with deep fakes, misinformation, and disinformation in increasingly sophisticated ways.
That’s where Democracy Works comes in. Democracy Works does critical work to boost voter turnout and make sure accurate, reliable information reaches voters. Specifically, they partner with popular sites, search engines, apps, and groups to provide Americans with trustworthy, useful voting guidance. They were recently one of the organizations chosen by Amazon co-founder MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Fund.
Any amount you can donate to this nonpartisan nonprofit group will help democracy, inspire me as I train, and is also completely tax-deductible. I’d be honored if you’d joined me in this campaign.

Questions you may have:
Do you even run bro?
It’s been several years since I’ve run consistently, but I’m the first to admit that running has never been my strong suit.
But I’m gonna do my best!
Will you keep us updated on your progress?
Yes, of course. Right now, I’m currently training for the Popeyes 7-miler, which is an unofficial run I’ve mapped between two of the nearest Popeyes locations to me. My plan is have a biscuit before my run and then reward myself with a three piece after (or die trying). As I scale up my miles, I may even take the longer route.
Do you have a finish time in mind?
My goal is to finish at Official Oprah Marathon Pace, which is 4 hours, 29 minutes. I suspect I’ll be closer to Al Gore (4:58).
Can I follow your times and routes on Strava?
Absolutely not. Stop asking, Albert.
Thanks as always for reading and for your support. The Crunchwrap will return to its normal, erratic content next week!
